Construction activity continues to progress along the State Route 41 Expressway Project as crews move into the next phase of construction and work increases across the project area.
During the second month of construction, nighttime lane closures were in place between Avenue 12 and Avenue 14 to allow crews to safely install environmental fencing to protect the sensitive habitat of the California Tiger Salamander and maintain a safe work environment for construction personnel. Yarbs Grading and Paving completed nearly all exclusionary fencing installation, with only two small sections remaining. Crews also began installing wetland protection mats to provide stable access for construction equipment while minimizing disturbance to environmentally sensitive areas. Permanent chain-link and barbed-wire fencing is now being installed along the state right-of-way within the project corridor.
Stage 1A construction is now underway, beginning with the installation of temporary lighting and grading southeast of Avenue 12 and State Route 41 in preparation for the construction of future northbound lanes and drainage basins. With wildlife mitigation efforts underway near the Avenue 11 Bridge embankment, fill operations associated with the project's earthwork activities are anticipated to begin soon. Survey crews continue performing construction staking and grade verification to support ongoing work, while Caltrans environmental staff remain on site to monitor compliance with environmental requirements throughout the project.
Looking ahead, construction activity will continue to increase as crews expand earthmoving operations and additional daytime and nighttime activities progress. Motorists should also expect future traffic shifts within the project area as new phases of construction begin.
